Hiring Web Programmer Nov 18, 2008

We’re looking for a know-it-all web programmer/designer. Need to have extensive knowledge and experience with java, php, css, mysql databases, photoshop, etc.

In general, need a site with the following requirements:

I. Homepage (landing page):

a. Main content will be posts (one to two paragraphs of content)

b. Wiki-type site where users are allowed to contribute/edit posts:

* Capability shall be provided for users to log in (for those who desire their handle to be displayed in the “contributor” field of a particular news summary page)
* For users who do not desire to login, the “contributor” field shall indicate “anonymous”

Maybe wiki is the right way to do it. Or maybe we should implement a custom system. You are the expert, you weigh the cost/benefits.

c. Each post shall be limited to the following structure (i.e. type of information and number of characters):

* Title - 50 characters
* Topic - 50 characters
* Body - 500 characters
* People mentioned - 200 characters
* Tags or keywords mentioned (i.e. jeans, shirts, candy, etc) - 100 characters

4. Landing (home) page shall contain title (and links) of posts ordered by date of post:

* Each title (link) shall be clickable and a drop down menu of the post shall be displayed. Directly below this post shall be a “more’ link that will lead to the dedicated post “wiki” page.

5. Landing (home) page shall contain the following sections:

* Post Category list (jeans, underwear, etc) - displayed in
* Archive - Click-able calendar that lists a particular day’s posts
* Top contributor’s list

6. A search function shall be provided to allow users/readers to search the site.

II. Dedicated Post page

Each dedicated post wiki page shall allow the following content to be contained:

* Post in the strict structure above.
* Reference links (maximum of 5) that point to external sources - when clicked, external pages shall be displayed in a “frame” like manner to keep visitors in our site. This is similar to how when you search Google Images and click an image, you don’t really get redirected to the external site, but a frame pops up and you are still in Google, just that you can also see the external site in another frame.
* Area for users to enter comments.
* Social networking “buttons” (i.e. digg, stumbleupon, etc).
* Capability for reader to “Email” post to someone.
* Capability for reader to subscribe to feed (need to further define).
* Rating/voting/flagging.
* Section listing reference links to people mentioned in post (i.e. linkedin, facebook, myspace, personal blog, etc).
* “See More” section where we can add more text, images, videos, etc
